Marwan Akar

Marwan Akar is the President & Managing Director of Merck Canada.

Marwan joined Merck in 1997 and previously served as Managing Director for Egypt and, most recently, for Russia and Eurasia. Marwan began his career at Merck in Manufacturing and leading multiple technology transfer projects across the globe. He later transitioned to business development with a focus on Emerging Markets.

Marwan has worked and/or lived in the United States, Europe, Middle East, Africa & Russia. His diverse career and international experience have given him a broad view of the world’s healthcare systems and the role the pharmaceutical industry plays within them. This experience provides him with the enterprise leadership skills to drive true transformational change.

Marwan holds B.S.& M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Imperial College, London.
