Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

A colposcopy is a specialized test where a woman's cervix is examined through a lighted magnifying device called a colposcope. Colposcopies are usually conducted either in hospitals or clinics by doctors who are specially trained to carry out this procedure.¹⁶

In some cases, a biopsy may be taken during the colposcopy. This is a tissue sample which is examined under a microscope for abnormal cells. This helps the doctor to know what type of treatment is necessary for the patient.¹⁶
