Managing HIV Disease: Getting the Most from Your Therapy

Managing Your Anti-HIV Therapy

Reminders make it easier

  • Enlist a list! You may find it helpful to keep a list of your medications and the times you take them. And then check them off as you go. You'll easily see if you've missed any doses and be able to plan so it doesn't happen again.

  • Make taking your medications part of your routine. Connect it with your daily activities -- from brushing your teeth to walking the dog.

Questions & Answers

"I like to sleep in on the weekends. Is it okay to change my dosage schedule on those days?"

No. Relax and enjoy your weekends, but don't change your medication schedule. Take your morning dose of medications at the same time you do during the week. And then you can always go back to bed.

Planning problems? Talk to your health-care provider. He or she has ways to help you plan your medication times properly and easily.

Ask your pharmacist for a print-out of your personalized schedule or print a copy of the following therapy schedule and use it to outline your medication schedule. Seeing it in writing can help simplify the challenge.

Plan a schedule that works for you...

What are the best times for you to take your medications? It all depends on your personal schedule and lifestyle. So plan carefully!
